A Gold Coast couple went from a $32,000 deposit to a $10 million portfolio after selling five properties in less than three months.

Their investment journey began with the purchase of a Surfers Paradise apartment for $318,000 in 2016, which two years later saw a $157,000 profit after a tight budget renovation.

“We were just starting out and completely overhauled the gut,” Ms. King said. “We ran out of money three-quarters of the way through and had to borrow $10,000 to finish it.”

Ms King, 33, a digital marketer, and Mr Sawrey, 36, a carpenter, caught the “renovation bug” by taking on projects including three more blocks, a commercial warehouse and a vacant plot of land on the Gold Coast. Hinterland.

They intended to build a house on the vacant lot, but stopped due to post-pandemic construction costs.

Last April, they splashed out on a $3.7 million home in Tallahassee with a pool, tennis court and panoramic views, marking their latest property sale.

“When we saw the Tallai property, both of our mouths dropped,” Ms King said.

“We knew it would be stressful, but we thought it might work to sell some of our existing properties.”

The couple secured an eight-month deal for the Tallai home on the condition that they sell three homes within 120 days.

After taking the high-priced deal, they decided to “go all in” by listing their remaining properties and selling a total of $5 million worth of assets between May and August.

Their latest property, a modern three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, is scheduled to go to auction on October 25 with agent Hanan Crawley.

The stunning single-level home features a new pool, entertaining terrace, custom skylights and sleek interior finishes including black cabinetry, wood and stone.

“We bought this house because it had the perfect layout and we could see both the potential in this property and how we could transform it,” Ms King said.

“We added a $50,000 custom kitchen, 14m bi-fold doors to the alfresco area and six skylights to make this space our best renovation to date.

“We both intend to stay in this house for a long time, we've finished and chosen everything we really want in a house.”

Securing the multi-million dollar dream homes in Tallai marked the culmination of their eight-year journey through rising property prices and the challenges of the construction industry.

“There is still potential for other young people to come into the market and try it out,” Ms King said.

“The hardest is always the first, but with enough determination and hard work, it is possible.”
