Tim Weisheyer of Florida Realtors on servant leadership in business
Tim Weisheyer joins host Tracey Velt on the show. 2025 president. The duo explores the concept of servant leadership for business success, relies on learning for long-term success, balances the use of technology with building relationships, and identifies the trade group's top priorities for 2025.
Weisheyer is also the CEO of the company Dream Builders Realty and DBR Commercial in the center. This conversation has been edited for length and clarity. After a brief introduction, Weisheyer looks back at his background and the beginning of his servant leadership journey.
velvet: Tell us a little about how your career path has shaped your experience.
Weisheyer: One of my greatest blessings is that my parents modeled servant leadership for me. I have a very clear understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. But I also know what I'm equally good at, such as leadership in areas of community service—whether it's at the Realtor association or as a two-term school board president.
It's always been about using that little bit of time and talent to make a positive difference in the lives of others. You see it in my willingness and desire to serve Florida Realtors, my local association of Realtors, and of course, NAR.
I just believe that we are all called to use our lives to make a positive difference for others. So my goal is to call and what I plan to spend the rest of my life doing.
velvet: For many brokers, agents and team leaders, they are comfortable and successful at what they do. So what's your advice for deciding to try something new? But what if it's not built into your personality?
Weisheyer: If you really want to grow in life, you have to be willing to stretch yourself. The second thing I learned is about the four C's of leadership. One of them is skill. If you don't know what to do, learn it and prepare. I always challenge myself to gravitate towards someone smarter than me and surround myself with truly accomplished people. If you are afraid to take that risk, do it.
velvet: Tell me about the innovations that helped build and scale Dream Builders.
Weisheyer: I think the best way to talk about it is not just Dream Builders because it's a combination of companies. Dream Builders Realty, DBR Commercial Real Estate and Avanti Way Realty. What I like most about what we're looking for as companies — and for myself as a broker and real estate leader — is how do you start to develop and own more technology internally?
Avanti Way is a company that builds all this technology and an ecosystem with a vertically aligned and integrated technology stack. Our agents don't have to go to five different platforms. But there is still major blocking and resolution that needs to happen in real estate. It's still a relationship thing.
The talk concludes with a brief look at the goals of Florida Realtors moving toward 2025.
Weisheyer: First of all, it is to make sure that we are connected with our brokers. By 2025, I will be starting a broker roundtable tour around the state of Florida.
