Australia's most decorated TV personality, media royalty has quietly sold her Sydney home of 34 years for $8 million.

Since 1990, he and his family have lived in Finisterre, a five-bedroom with pool in Waverton on Sydney's North Shore, within walking distance of Waverton station and the Victoria Cross Metro.

The 798-square-metre McHatton St home went on the market on New Year's Day and sold from $8 million to $8.5 million two weeks later. Ray and his wife of more than 50 years, Dianne, paid $900,000 for the original 1930s home in 1990.

The Martins have been tight-lipped about their Sydney home, where they are raising two children, Jenna and Luke.

The couple paid $250,000 for a house in Coolum in 2001 and owned a property on the Sunshine Coast, selling it for $2.65 million in 2022.

Their Waverton home has a north facing rear, outdoor terrace for entertaining and a skylight pool house with a glass-framed mosaic pool and kitchen.

McGrath's Peter Chauncey had the listing and quickly negotiated the sale.

Waverton is a harborside suburb on Sydney's north side that also flies under the radar. There are just 411 homes in the suburb, with fewer than 10 trades a year, meaning the median house price is rarely recorded.

The 80-year-old legendary TV presenter has won five Gold and 26 Silver Logies over a six-decade career, been awarded an Order of Australia and even had a postage stamp issued in his honour, for his work in the media, charities and with Indigenous Australians.

He is best known for his current affairs program 60 Minutes, which he started on Channel 9 in 1978.

He recently completed a series about death and dying on SBS called Ray Martin: The Last Goodbye.
