Block 2024 finale fan reaction: 'Attention-seeking moneybags' — Major problem the show needs to tackle – realestate.com.au

Blok is obsessed with eye-catching purses.

Who can remember the last time everyone bought a house on the Block because they liked it and wanted to live there?

Instead, audiences had to endure an extraordinary cavalcade of gazillionaires (including the most memorable one) throwing cash around like confetti.

It was fun for a while, but in a cost of living crisis, it's just sloppy and gross.

Given that a team had plans for a helipad at The Block Gisborne a few years ago, it's fair to say the houses have been out of touch for a while.

Throw in a bunch of shows with more money than the average viewer will see in 20 lifetimes and it monopolizes the offering and makes a mockery of the idea that this is really a renewal show.

Last night's buyer of all five houses, Adrian Portelli, announced this season would be his last. Serial pest plaintiff Danny Wallis has been uncharacteristically quiet, so maybe he's done, too.

If so, the show could be in big trouble. If they overcapitalize with $30,000 barbecues and $200,000 wine coolers, there will be few real buyers left when the billionaires disappear.

But that was not the case last night.

In the end, everyone – yes, even Kylie – walked away happy with a full wallet, but this is The Block 2024, so it wasn't before a few hand grenades were thrown.

At the meeting held to announce the reserve prices and determine the auction order, the battles started as is the tradition of the Block.

For once, teams didn't cry about their reserves. Prices were all set at $1,950,000, and while most teams were expecting something with two in front of them, there were relieved faces all around (apart from Ricky and Haydn who chose not to look at themselves).

And the auction order was like a battle as always.

Maddy and Charlotte volunteered to go last, and while no team wanted to take that spot, it was theirs. But all the other teams wanted to be first, with Kourtney especially stressing that first place shouldn't go to Brad and Kylie.

“If the worst house comes first, we do our best,” Kourtney said, drawing jabs and profanity from Kylie.

Kylie and Brad aren't happy about their home being described as the worst.

“The way out was aggressive,” Kylie said.

“We weren't necessarily talking about your house,” Grant replied.

The reader, they were talking about Kylie and Brad's house with Kourtney, then made allegations that the couple had more than a dozen registered buyers.

He wants to avoid putting the auction order into the lottery, claiming that it is too high risk.

“What if Kylie and Brad go first? It will get everyone up. We know that these 14 (buyers) are not real. This is selfishness,” he said. “Currently, the public perception of the 4th House is not the best. I'm very sorry. I don't want to say that.”

“They don't even know who their buyers are,” adds Grant.

Meanwhile, Kylie is uncharacteristically hiding in the corner and choosing not to engage.

“Now I'm supposedly getting treatment for the mean girls I did to them,” she says. “House 2, 5 and 1 are now in one contract and it felt very scripted and I actually left feeling very attacked.”

Brad refuses to close and accept the low auction with the order.

Kourtney's worst fears are realized as Kylie and Brad dig in their heels as the order goes into the lottery.

Fears are unfounded as Courtney and Grant are ecstatic to get their preferred spots in the auctions, followed by Kylie and Brad, Mimi and Christian, Ricky and Haydn, and Maddy and Charlotte.

And it's proving a good order, with Courtney and Grant's house selling for $3.3 million, netting them a $1,350,000 profit.

Kylie and Brad's house is for sale for $2.6 million, leaving them with $650,000 to move their home to Cairns.

Even more interesting than the auction is the scene where they sit next to Scott Cam during the auction, after Kylie tells the Block host, “I hate this guy so much,” before running off the show barefoot.

This particular elephant isn't discussed, though Cam can't resist a quick dig and says, “Do you want to stay? As the offers increased, I thought so.

The teams celebrate Courtney and Grant's win.

The whole running away, accusations of infidelity, smashing the host episode was swept under the rug with no apparent hard feelings between Kylie and Mimi, or indeed between Kylie and The Block.

“We've been through a lot, but we're so grateful,” Kylie told Cam. “We are very grateful for the opportunity. It was a dream, yes.”

The only time Kylie really addresses the drama of previous episodes is when she hints at a producer about her past behavior.

“We have been through a lot, but we are very grateful. It was worth it. “Unfortunately, I was a different person here, but we managed.”

Then it's down to Christian and Mimi, who seem more than willing to discuss the warts and all of Mimi's behavior on the show.

As a quick reminder, she made fun of her husband for crying, refused to help him with physical work, partied and drank, then slept while he worked and flirted with Brad.

Anyway, it seems that's all water under the bridge.

“It's been an ordeal, we've been married for three months,” she says. “It kind of broke us, but now we're stronger than ever and we've found a new love for each other. This is indispensable for me.”

Their home is selling for $2,930,000, giving them an income of $1,030,000.

Ricky and Haydn watch their auction completely in the dark about what their inventory is, and when it's all over, they discover they've won $750,000 thanks to the $2.7 million sale price.

But it's late arrivals sisters Maddy and Charlotte who leave the biggest winners. Their house sells for $3.5 million, meaning the sisters walk away with $1,550,000 and $100,000 in winnings for the show.

Maddy and Charlotte arrived four weeks late and left with more money than anyone else.

The usual Block suitor emerged, some using a buyer's agent to cover his tracks.

“It was the message that it was my last performance on the Block and I thought I was going to go out with a bang,” he says.

He went out with a bang, but fans of the show were not impressed with the night as a whole, with many calling the show “fake” and lamenting that Portelli only chose who he wanted to win.
